D-SUB CONNECTORS
Nobody knows better than Smiths Connectors that the main function associated with high
impedance D-Sub connectors is to ground the outer shield of a Twinax or Quadrax contact
directly to the shell of the connector. A multi-finger ground spring fixed around the shell
provides a multi-point contact engagement that affords superior EMI shielding. The end
result is an extremely low contact resistance when measured from the contact outer body
to the connector flange.
The Rugged D-Sub connector series from Smiths Connectors delivers this and much
more, ensuring minimal RF noise and high durability of up to 1,000 mating cycles.
Our D-Sub meets and surpasses all requirements of MIL-STD-202 for shock and
vibration, and is offered with 100 ohm Quadrax and/or differential pair Twinax
contacts. Factory consultation is recommended when other impedances are
required.
Additionally, D-Sub connectors also feature ease of assembly, a leading-edge
production tool method, and innovative quality inspection to customers.
A creative approach was taken in bringing this comprehensive interconnect
solution to market as a conscious effort was taken to look at it through the
eyes of customers. The end result is a rugged connector that embodies both
innovation and common sense.
When multiple numbers of high speed rugged D-sub connectors are deployed
within systems, electrical problems can occur relevant to mating of the wrong
high speed D sub plug to the receptacle. There may be scenarios where one
set of rugged D-sub connectors is using differential Twinax and another set is
using Quadrax. To ensure that the correct high speed connectors are mated to
address specific wiring requirements and keying combinations, a keyed jack post was
incorporated into the design. The six-positioned keyed jack post allows for 36 possible
keying combinations assuring that the correct high speed rugged D-sub plug is mated to the
correct high speed receptacle. D-Sub connectors from Smiths Connectors deliver the critical
edge that customers operating in today’s global economy demand.
