Cal-Chip Electronics, Incorporated operates a policy of continu-
ous development for its ranges of Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors.
Our unique construction process ensures excellent volumetric
efficiency and stability of capacitance with temperature.
High Voltage Chip MLC’s have extended values in the 500V
series to those previously offered, together with. totally new
1kV and 2kV to 5kV ranges.
Ceramics are dense, hard, brittle and abrasive materials. They
are liable to suffer mechanical damage in the form of chips or
cracks, if improperly handled.
MLC’s should never be handled with metallic instruments.

Metal tweezers should never be used as these can chip the product surface.
Plastic or plastic coated types are recommended. High voltage MLC’s
should never be handled with fingers. Perspiration and skin oils can inhibit
solderability and will reduce the Flashover voltage between terminations.
Soldering
Chip sizes 3640 and above need special care for the avoidance of thermal
shock during assembly and thermal stress in life when used on substrates
and printed circuit boards.

No temperature steps of more than 70°C should be employed. Ideally the
pre-heat zone should elevate the substrate from room temperature to solder
operating temperature. The pre-heat temperature rise should be kept to no
more than 2°C per second.
The introduction of a soak, at the end of the pre-heat, is recommended, as
this allows temperature uniformity to be established across the substrate.
