Product Modification
Upgraded E5_N Temperature Controllers offer improved
performance and enhanced design
Omron’s flagship E5CN, E5AN, and E5EN Series Temperature Controllers have been modified to bring
expanded selection and higher accuracy to your customers. These modifications will also serve as the
platform for additional enhancements and line extensions to be announced in the near future.
Production of all pre-2008
E5_N models will be
discontinued after
February 29, 2008.
The newly upgraded
E5_N Controllers are
available for order after
January 1, 2008 and
include new silver models
in all three sizes..
It is very important to note the product changes outlined in this document (e.g. part
numbers, option board compatibility, and terminal arrangements). Please work closely
with customers to ensure painless migration.

Key Features and Benefits
Improved input accuracy for terminal block models:
o
Thermocouple: (± 0.3%PV or ± 1° whichever is greater) ± 1 digit
o
Platinum resistance thermometer: (± 0.2%PV or ± 0.8° whichever is greater) ± 1 digit
o
Analog input: ± 0.2%FS ± 1 digit
Improved current output resolution – approximately 10,000
Rating for alarm outputs improved to 3A, 250 VAC
For models with added external communication (RS-485), set-up cable (E58-CIFQ1) can now
be used at the same time
Additional Parameters / Functions:

MV limiter

40% AT(auto-tuning)
o
Auto-tuning function for cooling gain during heating and cooling
o
Switching direct/reverse operation by event/operation command

PV change rate alarm

Modification Details and Compatibility Information
The upgraded Controllers are basically compatible with the previous Controllers. Terminal
arrangements, terminal sizes, and panel mounting depth
have not changed.
New option boards and pre-2008 option boards are
not cross compatible;
therefore part numbers
have been changed.
The charts included below were created to assist you in migrating customers to the new Controllers.
Part number changes must be communicated to customers. For example:
o
To order a pre-2008 E5CN-R2MT-500 AC100240, you must add
-N5
to the end of the part
number. (Please note pre-2008 Controllers will be available only for a limited time.)
o
If the customer is prepared to migrate to the new unit, simply order E5CN-R2MT-500 AC100240.
o
AC/DC24 models now have a “D” in the part number (E5CN-QMTD-500 AC/DC24).
Although the Controller (body) of a new unit can fit into the housing of an old Controller it is
not
recommended
as Omron can not guarantee the accuracy of the waterproof properties and the
product warranty will be void.
New terminal covers (E58-COV17) will not fit onto old units; and previous terminal covers
(E58-COV10) will not fit new units.

details (H156-E1-01).

Option boards manufactured after January 1, 2008 are labeled to show terminal arrangements for
new controller models.
The charts included below were created to assist you in migrating customers to the new Controllers.
Part numbers have changed
and must be communicated to customers. For example:

To order the new E5AN-R3MT-500-N AC100240. Note – “N” is now included in the part number.
o
AC/DC24 models now have a “D” in the part number (E5AN-Q3MTD-500-N AC/DC24).
The Controller (body) of a new unit can not be installed into the housing of an old Controller.
Since terminal arrangements have changed it is
not possible.
If this installation method is
attempted Omron will not guarantee the accuracy of the waterproof properties and the product
