The Pascall I & Q Detector Module gives an unambiguous
measurement of the phase difference between an IF input
signal and a reference input signal. The amplitude of the IF
input signal can also be derived from the two outputs.
In operation, the IF signal is passed through an amplifier (which defines
the upper end of the dynamic range) and a band limiting filter. It is then
split by the IF power divider, into two signals, that are equal in both
amplitude and phase. Each signal is then fed to one input of a pair of
analogue phase detectors.

MONITOR OUTPUT
(Optional)
The other inputs to the phase detectors are derived from the reference
input which is split into two signals by the quadrature hybrid; these are
equal in amplitude but have a quadrature phase relationship.
The outputs of the phase detectors are then passed through matched
low pass filters and video amplifiers. The video outputs EI and EQ
therefore give outputs proportional to the input signal voltage
multiplied by the sine and the cosine, respectively, of the phase
difference between the reference and IF input signal.
Computer Angular and Amplitude Accuracy
These accuracies are specified at an IF signal input level of -10dBm.
The stated accuracies include errors due to phase balance, amplitude
match and output offsets.
The computed phase is defined as:
o = tan

and the amplitude as:
Dynamic Range
The dynamic range is defined as the ratio of the modules' noise output
plus 3dB, with no signal input to the 1dB compression point in the
presence of a signal.

Output Offset
The output offset is the voltage at the I or Q video outputs, with no
signal applied but with the specified reference input.
calculated from the output voltages, less the phase due to the
differential delay between the signal and reference channels, and the
actual input values.
