The ADS1210 and ADS1211 are precision, wide dynamicrange, DS A/D converters that have 24 bits of no missingcode and up to 23 bits rms of effective resolution. Becauseof the nature of the DS design architecture the circuitdesigner has control over more of the variables and interfaceoptions in the A/D’s conversion process than is realizablewith other converter architectures. These options are digitallyimplemented and include analog input configuration, oversampling, calibration and digital protocol control. Consequently, these A/D converters can service a wide variety ofapplications, including high precision, high speed, and lowpower. There is the subset of conditions that must exist before23 bits rms of resolution can be achieved with theADS1210/11. The manipulation of these A/D functions aswell as practical layout recommendations are discussed inthis application note.
