One of the features of the DS Analog-to-Digital converterslike the ADS1211 and ADS1213, is the four channel, multiplexedinput. This feature allows for the chip user toindividually digitize up to four separate differential signals.This advantage can be useful in process control environmentsas long as the user understands the issues of latencyassociated with DS converters. This application note illustratesthe topology of the DS converter, explains the phenomenonof latency in DS converters and shows its affectson the accuracy of the digital output of the converter. TheDemo Board, DEM-ADS1210/11, is configured in such amanner to show this behavior.
