Table 1. Portable USB DAQ for High-Voltage Digital I/O Selection Guide
Hardware Description
National Instruments USB-9421, USB-9472, and USB-9481 are data
acquisition modules with integrated signal conditioning. They
provide plug-and-play connectivity via USB for faster setup and
measurements, offering four or eight digital input or output channels
specifically designed for monitoring and control applications. The
NI USB-9421 digital input module accepts high-voltage levels
between 11 and 30 V for direct connection to 24 V systems. The
NI USB-9472 can source up to 30 V externally powered at 0.75 A of
current per channel, and the NI USB-9481 uses electromechanical
relays that can switch 2 A at 30 VDC and 1 A at 60 VDC. In addition,
these modules include channel-to-earth ground isolation for safety,
noise immunity and high common-mode voltage range.
Common Applications
The USB-9421, USB-9472, and USB-9481 are ideal for monitoring
and control applications where easy connectivity and portability are
essential, such as:
• Portable industrial monitoring and controlling motors, fans,
pumps, relays, and limit switches
• Data logging
• Small form-factor applications
• Embedded OEM applications
• In-vehicle data acquisition
• Academic lab use
